Level on 37. Tregunna's Back Nine Won the Argument.
John Tregunna and Andrew Revill both signed for 37 points, clear of everyone else. The countback went to the back nine, where Tregunna scored 20 to Revill's 19. One point. The neat twist is that Revill got round in a gross 74 to Tregunna's 80 and it counted for nothing. On a Saturday like this, the card only cares about points.
The winning 37 was 10 clear of the field average of 27. Tregunna did his best work coming home: off his 17 handicap, he made three birdies on the back nine, on the 11th, 13th and 14th. Two were four-pointers. That's how you win a countback.

Alex Lang made a 7 on the 6th and turned in 14 points, hanging around the cut line with the pack. The back nine was a different man. He came home in 20, the best back nine on the course alongside the winner's, and climbed all the way to 4th. One spot off the podium, from a round that looked like going nowhere at the turn.

John Brown turned in 17, the same front nine as the man who would win the countback. Then the back nine happened. He came home in 10, four pickups, and a card that had been threatening a podium place limped over the line on 27. Made the cut. Finished 28th. Nine holes separated contender from survivor.

Jasper Rowden has now made the cut in every round this season. On Saturday he went further than that, 3rd place on a gross 71, front nine 18, back nine 18. Steady is too dull a word for it.
Bob McLean keeps turning up. He was 7th last week, 8th this week, three cuts in a row. Nobody is writing headlines about him, which is roughly how he seems to like it.

John Tregunna's name goes on Episode 4, taken on 37 by the width of a single back-nine point. A lighter field, a tight finish, and four rounds in, nobody is running away with the season.
